Healthcare Social Media Week in Review: September 24, 2012

The healthcare community is made up of a diverse group of people.  From the patient to the hospital PR team to the physician to the pharmaceutical company all are engaging in person and via social media platforms.  This week’s healthcare social media in review takes a look at several of hats that make up the community.

  • Pharmaphorum brings a wonderful interview with e-patient and very active healthcare social media (HCSM) member Tiffany Peterson.  Peterson took up using social media and blogging after being diagnosed with Lupus and having a hard time finding any information regarding the diagnosis.  Check out the wonderful interview: Patient Perspective – Tiffany Peterson
  • Primary care physician and Medial Communications Editor at Boston Children’s Hospital Dr. Claire McCarthy, brings back the thoughts and insights from the Medicine 2.0 Conference.  The conference focused on healthcare’s use of social media, mobile apps and the Internet as a whole.  Take a look at insights Dr. McCarthy has brought back from the conference:  Healthcare Needs Social Media
  • While there are some wonderful things happening in the world of healthcare and social media, PR specialist Rosemary Plorin writes about the “what if’s” of healthcare social media gone wrong.  While some of her 10 “what if’s” may be humorous, she raises some wonderful points about HIPAA and social media best and worst practices:  Healthcare Social Media Nightmares
