Healthcare Social Media Week in Review: August 22th, 2012

This week’s HCSM chat session created some great dialogue about electronic medical records.  With that in mind, I wanted to find a few articles for our social media week in review that touched on electronic records and physician/patient engagement via mobile applications.  Have you seen these articles floating around the healthcare social media sphere?  What do you think?

  • A great article in the New York Times discusses smart phones and their applications as another way of treating patients.  Prescription-app maker WellDoc has been on the forefront with its DiabetesManager system.   Using an App as Prescribed by Joshua Brustein via New York Times
  • Dr. Lauren Chasin writes about the role of physicians have to teach patients and how tools like Twitter allow for open communications.  Dr. Chasin also makes a wonderful point with regards to physicians being present and trusted leaders in the community.  Social Media is Crucial to the Development of Medicine Today by Dr. Lauren Chasin via KevinMD
  • Another interesting article regarding mobile medical apps discusses engagement between physicians and their patients.  Dr. Joseph Kim who wrote the article is excited to see healthcare providers becoming more social and engaging with patients via medical apps.  Mobile Medical Apps Are Making Doctors More Social Online by Dr. Joseph Kim via
  • Nicola Ziady writes an article that focuses on six facts about doctors and social media.  The facts that come from a QuantiaMD study sparked some interesting dialogue in the comments section of the article.  6 Facts About Doctors Using Social Media Platforms by Nicola Ziady via
  • Flowtown in collaboration with Column Five Media has created a wonderful social media cheat sheet infographic.  The cheat sheet focuses on six social media platforms and gives a great run down on each of the six.  Flowtown Infographic: The Small Business Social Media Cheat Sheet Flowtown in collaboration with Column Five Media
